removing the final bottom step of my staircase (advice).

Thanks all for reading!
My last bottom step is bigger than the other steps, creating a landing space compare to the room floor floor in the groufloor. Please see picture.
Naïvely I would like to remove it because that landing step, reduce massively my options to rearrange my dining room in a more functional place space.
I am not sure what that step is for, and why is so big compared to the others steps, it was there before I bought the property, but I was wondering if it is at all possible to removing keeping into account building regulations, safety of the stairs etc.
Someone made the comment that it could be that under that step there could be something hiding ( e.g. pipes) and that it would unlikely that it could be removed.
Before I embark myself in this small project, I would like to understand what the experts (carpenters / builders ) think about that step and if it could be removed without creating problems to the general stairs /floor.
Also, would you be able to advice I much such a job could cost me if I ask a builder / carpenter to do it?
Many thanks for your feedbacks
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Your advice was good, more than likely an unnecessary landing could be hiding something like pipes, you will only find out once the landing is removed unfortunately

Glen could well be right but I can't see the photos you refer to. If this "landing" as Glen refers to it is actually part of the stairs "as fitted" then it is likely that Glen and your previous advisor are correct. Without getting to grips via photos and/ or preferably a site visit it would be difficult for anyone to ascertain the works involved and say if it is at all possible or how much it would cost.
Sorry to appear vague, but there is a lot to consider for what appears to be a straightforward job, which it may well turn out to be.
John.

I agree with the two posters that it could be boxing in some pipes or something structural, as K2 said hard to tell without seeing pictures. Best to get a carpenter round to investigate/quote.
If nothing is being hidden and this landing/step has a smaller rise (vertical height of step) than the other steps, and also it is after the newel post and therefore unlikely to be structurally integral to the stairs, then technically you would be able to remove and rejig the 2nd step as long as each riser is less than 220mm.
I did have one thought that what you might be describing is a bullnose ( or curtail / d-nose) bottom step - Google these terms to see what I'm referring to. If this is the case it would then be after the newel post (therefore not structural integral to the staircase) then it may be possible to make it smaller - at least in line with the stringer (side of the stairs). Or remove entirely - but again not if this creates a rise of more than 220mm
Hope this helps
