Wall behind Electric Cooker

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.43 PM

I need to buy a new freestanding electric cooker and have been told by retailers that it cannot be installed as i have wall paper above and behind my old freestanding electric cooker and therefore as it is seen as an inflamable material they could not install it. What would i need to put on the wall above and behind the my cooker to enable a new one to be installed.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

A splashback would probably be the easiest solution for the visible area above the cooker. If you go to one of the larger DIY stores you’ll be able to get an idea of styles etc.

Get onto whoever came up with this heap of nonsense to tell you where this so called regulation is. I would buy it get it delivered and get it installed by an independent electrician. I would bet that you would not have this problem. Honestly, some of these retailers are garbage.

Tiles are another option to go above worktops and behind cookers. Strip the wallpaper and paint? You need a wipeable surface for practical reasons. You can get a sheet of stainless steel cut to an exact size from ebay and then silicon this behind? Easy fix job for a handyman.

Yet another excuse from retailers to avoid installing your cooker. Never heard such nonsense. Ask them where they have seen this regulation.
