GIA of a multistorey building?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.43 PM
How do you calculate the GIA of a multistorey building? Do you work out the GIA of each floor and then add them together to get a total GIA?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

GIA stands for Gross Internal Area, essentially, it means the area of a building measured to the internal face of the perimeter walls at each floor level.
You can find out what is included by looking up the RICS GIA metrics.
And yes, you'd add the GIA for each floor together to obtain the total value

GROSS AREA INCLUDES CIRCULATION SPACE AND SUCH THINGS AS W.C.S KITCHENS ETC. NETT WOULD EXCLUDE THEM BUT` THE NETT AREA IS NOT MUCH USE. GROSS AREA GIVES AN IDEA OF BUILDING COST AND VALUE.
