Sandy Block Paving

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.58 PM

We had block pacing put down about 8 weeks ago and since then whenever it has rained A lot of sand has been coming up off the paving. Is this normal or can it be avoided?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

No this is not normal. If it was swept in properly and the block paving was tight then it shouldn’t move (sand shouldn’t come up)

Block paving should be tight and compact together only place we’re sand should be exposed is on the cuts really and still it shouldn’t come out of joints

It sounds like the paving didn’t have a whacker plate run over the top after sanding to help lock it in. Safest option is to re-sand and whacker, this should lock it in. If the block paving is tight enough.

Sounds like a wacker plate hasn’t been used. I would recommend to re-apply the sand and wack down. To go the extra mile block paving sealer could be used
