Sanding Sequence For Bare Hardwood Doors
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.04 PM
Hi All, A) I am sanding previously dark stained hardwood mahogany doors to pretty much bare. I am unsure of the sanding sequence apart from never to skip grades. They have been done with 80 Grit so far but I need to smooth them out. I have read that some folks say never go above 120 Grit to allow the primer to nicely penetrate through but other sources seem to say to sand to between a 180 - 240 grit before applying primer so I am unsure as how to proceed. So before priming & painting white, should I go: 1) 80 to 120 2) 80 to 120 to 180 3) 80 to 120 to 180 to 240 B) We also have 2 large disabled sized hardwood mahogany doors that were coated with a clear Ronseal Varnish on them. What sanding sequence should be done on these to ensure a smooth painted finish afterwards? Really appreciate clarification for a nice smooth finish! Thank You!
