Hot water in shower and bath intermittently going cold

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.47 PM

The hot water coming out of either our shower or our bath taps has been going cold for a couple minutes in the middle of running a shower or bath for about the last week. We had a combi gas boiler installed last year and serviced a few months ago. In the bathroom the shower is a thermostatic mains mixer. Should I book a plumber or a gas engineer?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If it is Bath taps as well then it's to do with boiler, I would get boiler checked first as obviously a problem there

Contact a gas engineer, if the fault is on multiple outlets then most likely a fault with the boiler, usual causes are a blocked plate hex or faulty flow turbine/sensor.

I’d say a gas engineer especially if it’s a boiler problem it’s not worth the hassle of someone replacing parts on a boiler when they may not actually know what they are looking at

Sounds like a boiler issue, I would start with getting the boiler serviced and that should flag up any issues.

Most likely plate heat exchanger blocked in the boiler, depending on which model there may also be a filter that needs cleaning too.

Boiler is overheating due restriction in heat exchanger, or flow swith dropping out/ divertor passing, boiler fault
