Angle corner fillet at base of parapet wall of flat roof?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.47 PM
I've seen detail drawings of flat roofs with parapet walls which seem to have some kind of angled fillet at the base of the parapet, its sometimes labelled 'cant strip', what exactly is it and what is it for? Is it always needed at the corner of parapet walls for flat roofs?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Angle fillet around a parapet wall on a flat roof is to soften the angle of the flashing so that it is not at a 90 decree angle which is more Likely to splitting

It's called arris rail its normally at 45% angle so when you fit rhe flashing it kicks the water away from the wall it also helps to stop puddles forming

Cant strip is only used on torch down/sbs when you need a raised edge to stop water flowing off any edges you don't want it to. and on tar and gravel roofs to help direct water away from any units or corners. if you have parapet walls it is not needed and if your using epdm, grp or tpo you will not need can't because these systems have there own special trims/strips. I hope this helps.

To help prevent water pooling, it also prevents a weakening of the finishing layer as the roof covering is not creased at 90 degrees
