Concealed Cistern connected to hot water
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.47 PM
Hi i have just realized my builder has connected concealed hidden cistern to hot water instead of cold water. Because of hot water flush plate had some moiesture on it and when i checked i found out there is hot water in cistern. No everthing tiled and finished Do i need to get this repaired or it wont make any difference in the long run. Appreciate any helpful comments. Thanks.

Hi there,
If you have a combination (combi) boiler, every time you flush the toilet and the cistern refills, the boiler will start up. Thus costing you gas, electric and water until the cistern is full.
If you have a hot water storage, it will be using the hot water out of your storage tank, which will cost you money to heat for each toilet flush.
The hot water will not damage the toilet or the materials inside the cistern.
This situation is not ideal. It must of been an honest mistake when branching off for the water supply to the cistern by linking on to the wrong pipe. I'm sure the builder will be prepared to help correct this mishap.
I hope this helps

although this will not damage the ceramic part of the wc, it could lead to warping of the cistern , witch in turn could lead to a split in the cistern and a very big leak, i would get it rectified as soon as is possible.

Hot water causes damage to seals , if you have a lot of people over and they use the toilet a lot the water in cistern will be very hot . I’ve come across this before and after changing seals every 6 months I connected it to cold .

i would check it is actually connected to the hot supply as it could be caused by a mixer tap passing , the inners of your cistern are mainly plastic & rubber constant exposure to high temperatures will prematurely cause wear & tear to your cistern , I would have the plumbing looked at & the problem rectified
