Wooden floor joists
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.47 PM
I have a Victorian terraced house with some damaged floor joists in the ground floor ceiling/first floor floor. I understand a carpenter or joiner would be the best person to repair/replace the joists. Do I need a more specific trade to assess the extent of the damage and establish what repairs are needed? Many thanks!

Carpentry will do, and some handymen will do the job

A carpenter should be OK, however ensure that that the reason for the joists being repaired is properly addressed. For example if they are rottern make sure all the rot is cut out and treated to prevent spreading, also make sure that there is no more damp or water around the new joists that can start of feed rot again.

This job will require a standard carpenter. However it is important to establish the state of the entire floor before closing everything off again. Find the source of the potential moisture, ensure the complete health of the remaining joists; to avoid repeated future works.
