Suggestion for a new glass conservatory

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.47 PM

Hi friendly MyBuilders, We have bought a new build 4 years ago and I would like to build a conservatory now. for an extra space so sit and enjoy our free time. The whole width is 5m The height is only 2.5m until gutters. I feel its not high enough I we want to go for a lean to, which raises the height a bit The length is 3m so we don't need a council permission I want to go for a full glass conservatory so we don't loose any sunlight into our living room. Could some one provide some suggestion if going for a glass is a wrong decision? Thanks in advance Sree

In answer to your question glass Conservatives are ok job but must have adequate ventilation so as to avoid condensation and they can also be very cold in winter time hope this is helpful in your decision

Hi Sree A glass conservatory adds a touch of class to the back of the house, specially if you want maximum light in the back room. To raise the height of the roof you may have to go for a 4 sided hipped back conservatory, and then the ceiling can be a slightly more loftier, it looks like a pyramid shaped conservatory roof, its what we call a hipped back Edwardian Conservatory. In future if it gets too hot in the summer or cold in the winter, putting an air conditioner is a good option and will easily suffice as most units now consume less electricity and heat the room very quick in the winter, and equally cool it down much quicker in the summer, but its got to be the right kilo watt for the size of the conservatory. A conservatory adds the grand look to the home, and in most cases can be the quickest addition of space a home needs. Hope this helps.

You would need a raised box gutter at the back to give u the roof pitch, also a full glass roof if south faceing would be quite hotter on very hiot days but in England they are normally fine and hold heat in the winter.

Hi you could do a boxed gutter off your fascia board to get a better height but depending where you put it I would think very carefully as an all glass conservatory will get very hot in the summer to a point that you might not be able to use it and very cold in the winter even if you have heating put in was as you could go down the route of a highly insulated light weight roof with roof lights hope this helps Chris
