Should my boiler have been mounted on to a plastered wall?
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.47 PM
I have been having a nightmare with a builder doing an extension. The boiler had to be moved as part of the works - but builder had it moved pre plaster so it is mounted on to the new breeze block wall and plastered around it. Wouldn’t it have been better to do some kind of first fix, then plaster then mount the boiler? I think it looks a mess but builder tells me that’s how everyone does it now…?

Hi. It is most likely happened this way due to time constraints. In an ideal world it would of been installed after the area was plastered, but this is quite often not possible when other works are happening at the same time. The boiler could be taken off the wall and the wall plaster boarded and plastered then the boiler refitted. This would have a cost due to having to alter the pipework and depending on the flue route and design may have to be replaced. Hope this helps.

Good answer by boyles, just to add to it
New condensing boilers do not get hot enough to do any damage to surfaces
You can mount boilers on timber, plasterboard or straight onto brick/block
As boyles said you can have it taken back off but there isnt much point as it would only cost you money.
Aslong as the boiler is secure and complys with regs you all good

Box it in or put a cabinet over it.
