Patio Installed Out of Positioning

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.29 PM

Just a quick one. Had a porcelain patio installed. It's wonky and doesn't line up with other garden aspects like was asked. Asked for a resolution. Is lifting and relaying a possibility? It's been down less than 12 hours.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, I would speak to the person that laid the slabs and ask them to come and resolve the problem .If its only just been laid then you should be able lift the slabs without causing damage and and clean off ready to re-lay . However you may need need to remove all of the Beding material (sharp sand and cement) aswell because if you have to lay them again over this it may take the height of the patio to close to the dpc for example .I hope this helps .

If its been down less than 12 hours and is already 'wonky' and your not happy with the aspects of it, I'd seriously think about talking to the company that laid it. A porcelain patio should not be wonky within 12 hours of being laid, if its like that after 12 hours it's not going to last 12 weeks. Something has gone wrong/failed somewhere.

I would be cautious about lifting a porcelain patio, even after 12 hours.

If the slabs are porcelain a bridge bond coat or slurry mix should of been coated on the back of each slab before being laid on the mortar bed,in my experience it would near impossible to take up the slabs with out cracking/chipping or breaking, although the cement won’t be fully cured the bridge bond coat will have set,any experienced builder would outline the proposed patio with surveying paint, road pins and string line prior to laying and confirm with the customer its the correct placement
