Kitchen appliance isolation switch amps?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.29 PM

Can someone please tell me what amp rating I need for kitchen appliance (fridge freezer, cooker hood, dishwasher) isolation switches on a grid plate. I have been advised that it is 32 amp but can only seem to find 20 amp double pole switches in most ranges. Many thanks

it would all depend on the total consumption or demand that is required. the person that advised you is correct you would be required to run a 32amp supply from your consumer unit to the kitchen grid switch and then use each 20 amp double pole isolation switch for each appliance.

9 x out if 10 they will and should be on a kitchen ring main (32amps) but the appliance themselves will be on a fused spur rated at 13 amps and then the plug itself could again be fused down to suit the appliance.

Yes you would supply the kitchen with a 32amp supply and fit 20amp rated grid switches for each equipment

Its nothing to do with the circuit. It will be a 32A circuit on which the grid plate is positioned, but, the rating of the switches can be 20A because each appliance will only be 13A maximum. There is no need for a fuse either. That will be in the plug fitted to the appliance.
