I want to re site my tv

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.29 PM

I want to hang a tv on an outside wall, (inside the house) there's a socket on this wall about 8 feet away from where I want the tv. The socket is part of the downstairs ring circuit on a 32amp rcbo at the CU. Could I spur off this socket through to outside and run 4mm swa along the outside and back in to a socket where the tv would be. I also want it to serve an electric fire. I can't channel the inside of the wall as there are radiator pipes in the way buried in the wall. Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I would probably go with extending the ring under the flooring and double check for those pipes you are talking about.

I’d spur into a switched fuse spur next to the double socket then go through the external wall, run the cable in conduit to the location drill back in for new socket behind tv…

Why 4mm? 2.5mm 3 core you want. Are you capable of glancing armoured cable correctly? It would be better to do it from within the house in t&e though. If you did it this it’s still only 2.5 cable.

I wouldn’t use Swa, it’d be a pain to terminate & keep the armour earthed. You’re better off extending & keeping the ring with 2.5 if you intend to serve more than 1 point & run the cables externally in conduit. Or spur off the socket with a fused spur & run a single 2.5 in the conduit.
