Fixing 85 inch tv to dot and dab wall

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.29 PM

Need to fix an 85inch tv to what I now believe is a dot dab wall. Any suggestions on the best and safest way to do this?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If your worried, it might be best to screw a large 18mm ply board to the wall first, that will be small enough to be hidden by the TV but as large as possible to spread the weight and then fix the tv bracket too and through the ply wood. Hope this helps

Yasmin there are many suitable ways to secure your TV to the wall. The immediate answer being, ensuring using the correct fixings that bridge the gap between the plasterboard and fix directly into the masonry. Second to this option, a face fixed board would offer incredible support to distribute the impact under tension where the brackets pull onto the hollow plasterboard. This can either be done with a large board covering every point of fixing or two smaller individual strips running the length of the brackets and just a couple of inches larger in area to help 'spread' that tension. A whole board is better. Personally the safest option for this, sadly is to remove the plaster board wall and secure the hollow point with timber completely. Once this is done, re board and skim the wall. This is obviously a lot more disruptive and significantly more expensive, but personally I'd rather not have a board fixed to the wall behind my TV for aesthetic reasons, second only to the fact that the recess behind the wall remains, however, this is a perfectly viable solution and one opted for 90% of the time. That said in answer to you question for the best and safest, that's the answer.

First my suggestion will be cut plasterboard, slide behind a plywood and put back plasterboard and fix tv in same time you can glue plywood to masonry wall or even put screws. Another option will be glue and screw MDF board with bullnose edge, to make less sharply edges, and tv on top of MDF.

The best and safest way is to get a professional in to do it.
