Do I need a socket closer to the gas cooker?
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.29 PM
I bought a gas cooker and paid for installation, i just noticed that there's nothing there other than the gas pipe no socket whatsoever, to be able to plug the oven in I'd need an extension lead , does it need rewiring and a socket moved so the cooker can be plugged directly into the cooker? No there is none hidden in any cupboards it's a breakfast bar so I'm right in thinking I need one closer to the cooker it's a good 3m away from the gas pipe

Usually have a single socket low level in the cupboard next to where the oven is situated, shouldn't be a problem to get one installed if needs be. Hope that helps

Check cupboards either side of oven as usually a socket is situated low level for this purpose. Very simple job for an electrician to install one if there is not

If there is no socket then one should be able to be installed fairly easily. They are normally located in a kitchen cupboard.

It's not very clear what exactly this customer wants.
If its a gas hob ,all you need it's a socket for the ignition.
On the other hand if you installed a new oven it might be the case for a new circuit from the Distribution board. Check the label for ampage or wattage. 5000W it's 21.7 A .If the label it's in this area with these figures and presumably there is ring main 32A in that kitchen than it's good to go with that circuit.
Again remember, max fuses in plugtops are 13 A. So it might be the case for a double pole switch. If the rating it's 2900W that's on the limit for plugtop.
Hope this helps.
