Driveways & Paving

Quality of Work (further to query karl95478)

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.28 PM

Hello I am providing more details further to my question karl95478 regarding our driveway being block paved. We are very grateful for the two replies we have had from Ask a tradesman. Kevin from BB Builders asked for more details why we were unhappy with the work done. The block bricks used in some places have pieces missing and are already marking badly on the surface and cannot be cleaned up. The more we try to clean them (or when it rains) sand appears everywhere making the drive look as if it has been down years rather than four weeks. It's the fact that bricks are already looking badly marked on the surface that concerns us most. Have we a right to ask the builder to look at these issues or is it too late? We would be grateful for any further advise. Regards Karl

You have every right to ask them to have a look. The blocks are made of concrete so there is going to be chips and faults, but it should be sorted by the contractor. Give them a call and I'm sure they'll be happy to come and sort it out for you.

Sounds to me the paviors are a bad batch and a rep from sourse should attend property to assess the product as for workmanship I can't comment unless I viewed the site or see pictures

Hello , it’s Patrick from JD Marshall , and to the answer to your questions about your drive there it could be holding water beneath where as there is not enough foundation which is pushing the sand up , hope that helps .

Hi its baz from bazaar landscaping founations could be a cause to your issue with there not being wnough stone mot under and when I rains its pushing the sand up. But with blocks looking 10 years old unless there a bad batch or cheap block have you jet washed them be a use that will take the top surface off making them look old than they are. Obviously that's over time. I would need to see pictures in order for me to give more information of what I think the issue could be.
