Concrete tiles used in sub base

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.42 PM

Hello The extension we did is about 45 cm from ground level in some places, In others just few inches.. we’re doing a patio trying to keep the level of the extension and there are some areas deeper than other.. I have removed the topsoil and going to start filling it up with MOT type 1 and compacting it..and I have a question.. I have about 20 concrete tiles 30cm x 30cm x 3cm. Can I use these tiles somehow to fill the void places? Is it ok or not recommend? If It is OK to use the tiles.. shall I smash them and use them directly in the dirt and compact before the weed membrane or above the membrane mixed with the MOT ? Or.. really don’t worth and better buying another mot bag is the way to go.. thanks for your help..

I wouldn’t recommend using them as they don’t compact properly like subbase with dust does. I wouldn’t use slate aggregate either as it has the same problem does not compact properly

It’s not worth what you will save. Always use MOT type 1 compacted in layers to get maximum strength and stability for your base
