Tiling

Laying LVT on top of existing tiles

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.04 PM

Got 1x1 tile in the hallway, which is close to 10years old. I want change it to give a new look. Don't know which is good to go. There is existing piped underfloor heating in place which shouldn't be disturbed while changing to new floor 1. Remove tile and lay new LVT. or 2. Lay LVT on top of existing tile. Advice me which is good to go? Thanks.

It’s ok but you can grinder the tile only to split in pieces for easy removal. Second option you can tile on top of the tile if doesn’t make the floor higher and as the costumer be happy too. Good luck

If the LVT is glue down use ardex na screed straight over tiles, no need to scarify no need to prime, If the LVT is click together system a flosting floor providing tiles are sound and level just use a LVT underlay and lay straight on top

I presume existing tiles are flat anyway so no need to faff about with scabbling existing or priming or self levelling , waste of time and money . Straight over with vinyl flooring
