Outside bell box keeps chirping then setting off the tamper alarm

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.47 PM

Sorry - long post. I’ve got an accentaG3 alarm system in my house (though all the alarm box and control panels are branded challenger) 4 weeks or so ago in the middle of the night the alarm which wasn’t set started going off. It was only the internal alarm making noise however the outside bell box was flashing but no sound. It’s then done this sporadically ever since usually every 3 to 4 days. After a bit of trouble shooting I’ve replaced the sensor on the back door which wasn’t functioning whilst in test mode. I’ve also replaced the internal battery in the control unit and thought we had it cracked. Whilst outside today I noticed the external bell box sporadically chirped. Literally for a second - no lights and no regularity to the chirping it did it 3x whilst I was outside. Then shortly after the 3rd time the internal siren went off and the tamper light was flashing on the control panel. Is it likely the outside box is failing and that’s then triggering the internal tamper alarm? I’m just not sure if the alarm thinks it’s the outside box being tampered with why it doesn’t make any noise? In test mode the siren works fine. If it is the box are they all interchangeable or would I need to buy one of the same brand? If not, anything else you’d recommend I look at?

It would be most advisable the bell box be replaced, due to component breakdown possibly due to corrosion, oxidisation age of the circuit board. Therefore causing a tamper fault on the main control panel and causing the sounder to chirp intermittently.

This fault would indicate the tamper circuit on the Bell box is faulty for whatever reason. A temporary fix would be to put a link wire between the negative Bell supply and the Bell tamper terminals in the main panel. This is only a temporary fix. You must get an engineer put to replace the faulty siren.

It could well be the bell box that’s faulty and need replacing. This could be caused by water damage or general ware from the board. They also have back up batteries in that will sometimes flash or chirp to signal battery fault. But all bell box faults should report to main panel and the system should be in fault.
