Should I be prepared to pay a deposit before the work is undertaken and if so should I get a receipt?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes ( amount to be agreed on) and definitely get a receipt. Even better pay it into their bank account.

Yes a deposit should be taken, this is to cover the cost of materials. Once project is complete and you are satisfied the labour charge on your invoice should then be paid in full. Always get receipts and ask for a copy of the terms and conditions.

It depends on the job. In some cases a deposit may be required to purchase material ect. Always get a receipt or this should be written as part of the quotation.

It depends on the job and the cost of materials we would normally require a 25% deposit at the end of day one on the job and yes always get receipt but on a job like yours were you require new windows they are all made to fit for your property I would think you would have to pay a deposit prior to having the work done just do research on the company and make sure everything checks out

Depending on the size of the job and materials involved I would ask for a deposit and give a receipt.. In the past i have not taken deposits and still have materials that i have paid for and not been able to use. and also paid the shortlisted fee on My Builder. Hence the requirement of a deposit

I think it reasonable to ask for a deposit as it shows positive commitment and builds a good relationship with The Contractor. Quite often materials need ordering and paying for in advance so a deposit helps to cover these upfront expenses. Should you ask for a receipt, absolutely! When we quote for a job we clearly list our payment terms and when asking for a deposit which is payable with a confirmation of the order, we always provide a receipt of payment.

Yes a deposit is a standard thing to do especially if there are expensive materials involved. Either a receipt or written (email) confirmation from the trader they have received the deposit.

Most company’s will ask for a deposit, but I would 100% get a receipt for the money that is exchanged as proof of payment.
