Are there cavity trays in my house?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.46 PM
Hello, My wife and I are looking to purchase a house that was built in the 1960s. The surveyor has raised the question of whether the walls have cavity trays or not and has recommended we get someone to use a boreoscope to answer the question. What does this mean and what are the ramifications of there not being any?

it means drilling a hole in the outside wall and inserting a camera into the cavity to see if there is any cavity trays and if not there could be a problem with damp through the cavity but if it was built in the sixties and no problems have arisen there is a possibility there might not be future problems

To see Cavity trays in 60's houses is quite rare, to insert a tray into a wall is a bit of a tricky job, it involves cutting away and removing the outer skin of brickwork and fixing the tray to the inner skin ....surveyors are not too clued up this sort of thing
