Should I caulk skirting boards before or after hanging lining paper

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.46 PM

I'm planning to use lining paper on my walls to paint over. Having stripped the walls back it's left with gaps between the skirting board and wall which I will caulk. Should I caulk before or after hanging the lining paper?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I would use grip fill for a better hold after the wall paper has fully set for best hold

Personally I’d caulk after. Then let it all dry. Most caulks crack nowadays when painted with emulsion, so if you’re using oil undercoat or acrylic I’d recommend undercoating the woodwork first and slightly coming up onto the wall covering the caulk. Hope this makes sense
