Screed around toilet, now toilet is in a hole

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.46 PM

Hello, We live in a new build. Shortly after moving in we had the whole of the downstairs screeded with self levelling and feather finish (i think?) and Amitco laid throughout. Long story short, the wife wants the downstair bathroom tiling. So the floor screed was wrapped around the toilet (it was never removed), and now I wonder how to get tiles behind the toilet on the wall (the toilet is flush to the plasterboard). I can't bring the toilet away from the wall, because it's sat inside a "hole" where the screed goes around it. If the toilet was removed, could the hole left in the floor be screeded and Amitco put down to make a consistent level floor finish. Remembering that the Amitco literally flows through the whole of the downstairs? I could obviously tile to the edge of the toilet, but the lid of the cistern would be a problem to tile around of course. Appreciate any advice on best action...

Hi Elliot, The toilet should really have been removed and had the Amtico laid underneath, however if the toilet sits flush to the wall at the base, you should be fine to fill this in with with a latex screed. Be careful not to overfill as your toilet needs to be sat on a level surface and you don't want to be hacking around your new Amtico with a grinding block.

The answer is simply yes. If you remove the toilet and there is a hole left in the floor where the screed should be, you can patch this up more screed or feather finish which dries quicker. See the link below. Hope this helps! https://www.tilemasteradhesives.co.uk/floor-levelling/feather-rapid-drying-patch-repair-and-smoothing-compound
