Should i install Gas or Electric heating and water?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.28 PM

I have just purchased a property that has no gas installed, just electric (economy7) We are looking to replace all storage heating and replace with either electric radiators and boiler, or to have gas installed and have combi/radiators.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Some things to consider in this case. 1. In a long run, 100% gas boiler and radiators. You can get gas boilers with 10 years or more warranty for parts and labour if installed by a fully qualified engineer by the law and MI's. If you have a gas meter in your property fantastic, if not you will need to contact the gas supplier in your area and ask if you can have a gas connected to your property. You can always ask the neighbours who is their supplier. Type of hot water system will need to be checked with the engineer. The engineer will need to check the size of the house, how many radiators, how many bathrooms, water pressure and flow per minute, etc.. 2. Electric heating system you will need an electrician to run tests in the electric board. You will need new electric connections for the radiators and the boiler. In a long run an electric system is not a good investment for full heating system.

Getting an electric system would be much easier as you already have a supply, alot less work would be required and would be cheaper to install. Getting a gas system would be more expensive but your energy costs would be alot cheaper and in the long run I think a gas system would be a preferred option.

In short; gas is cheaper to run, electric is cheaper to install. But you also need to take into account possible upgrades of boiler system or your consumer unit (fuse box)

Gas boilers will heat your home much more quickly than electric boilers and radiators
