Defect after flat roof installation

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.42 PM

Hello I engaged a company to complete a full flat roof installtion that cost around 5k. Some of the agreed works weren't completed. I let that go with no change in price. They also left tiles dislodged that I needed to correct myself as rain would have caused internal damage. However, I have been asking and waiting over four months for the company to come back out and fix a screw that is protruding from the fibreglass. Is it normal for screws to protrude completely through flat rooves post-works? Should I just fix it myself? I think it has been causing a leak. Is it reasonable for customers to finish off roofing works once a contractor thinks they are complete?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello, not under any circumstances should the customer be finishing off a roof installation by a tradesmen, my advice is to keep trying to get the roofing co to come and rectify it, if you still get nothing back you may have to get another roofer to come and address this problem for you.

You shouldn’t be finishing of work you’ve paid a tradesmen to do and your roof certainly shouldn’t be leaking I suggest getting back in contact with the roofer about the problems

In short, no is not reasonable for a client to finish off any works that have been paid for. The job should of been completed by the tradesman/company you employed and trusted to do the full job from start to finish. In regards to the screw, the simple answer in no, a screw should not be protruding through the fiberglass, it could of been an oversight on the builders part, however it sounds to me with tiles also left loose and other issues you ate having the company/tradesman you employed to do the job have on this occasion been less than professional. Try citizens advice if you have no luck contacting the firm, may also be worth putting your complaint and request in writing, send it recorded delivery and keep a record.

Absolutely not ! The if the screws are lifted this part of the reroof has not been completed correctly. You should take pictures of the issues you have and send this over in a formal email with added pictures and what you like to happen . If this doesn't work I'd get in touch with trading standards and ask for advice
