How long to remove wallpaper in 3 bed house? 10 days vs 2 days?

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 4.04 PM

Hello everyone, I have a small 3 bedroom house. All of the walls (including the toilet) are covered in 60s or 70s wallpaper. It also has Polystyrene ceiling in 2 of the bedrooms. I want to have the wallpaper and Polystyrene ceiling removed A tradesman told me it will take 10 days to do the job. Can someone please tell me on average how long it takes to remove wallpaper and Polystyrene ceiling (for 2 bedrooms only) for a 3 bedroom house? Thank you. Update: there was an error with the original question. I should have said I got quoted 10 days just to remove the wallpaper and the Polystyrene ceiling, rather than remove wallpaper and paint walls. Thank you

You Cant really put a time on stripping and if anyone tells you that they can are lying no matter what tools. Could be 15 layers of paper who knows, roughly 2/3 days if all goes well. 80% of the time you might have to cross line the walls because of what damage would be behind possibly another 2 days for that. 1 days prep and roughly 3 days painting depending If its all different colours and features walls etc.. obviously anything could change and hard to put a time scale on anything without viewing In person. Hope this helps

From my own experience two people is about 2 days work to take out the wallpaper one day to repair the walls and 2 days for painting. So 5 days all together for the three bedroom

I agree with the above answer. If you have a look at my profile portfolio. The one with the geometric feature wall. This was an average size room in a 1920's build house. nearly a century of layers of paint and wallpaper to strip. Realy difficult to remove and the stripping alone took 2 days. Yet a similar size room in a different newer home could take 4-8 hrs. In this case, it was 2 days of stripping, 1-day prep and repairing and 2.5 days to paint including the feature wall. So it took the best part of 5 days to complete. It really depends on what is underneath the wallpaper. On older properties expect at least a days labour. Hope that helps.

For the whole house in that condition I would think 10 days is rather ambitious. I wouldnt even give a time scale untill the wallpaper had all been removed and I could see wht state the walls are in.
