Plastering & Rendering

Replanted or skimming of hallway ceiling

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.46 PM

I have plaster coming away from the hallways ceiling and wondered if j would be able to do the jib myself as it is a small area and would I just need plaster or would it become a bigger job if I pull the remaining plaster down.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi I'd make sure all the loose plaster was taken down. Then score the ceiling with a Stanley knife and give it 2 coats of pva let it dry and then it's ready to give it 2 coats of plaster again. You can do it yourself but aslong as you know how to do it otherwise it could go wrong for you.

Hi , it’s a priority that you remove all loose plaster first . Score the ceiling as previously suggested then seal with PVA, then re skim . If your unsure of what your doing , consult a local plasterer for advice . Hope this helps and you get the issue sorted .

You would probably have to take the rest of the plaster down .And yes I think would turn into a bigger job than you think, difficult without seeing it.You may need to overboard it,then plaster it.If you never done plastering before get in a professional.

Hi, I would want to get to the root cause of why the plaster is coming away from the hallway ceiling in case there is a bigger problem hidden away. You could remove the plaster, score the ceiling for a key, PVA and reskim as suggested but this might create a bigger job for yourself down the road if there are other issues with the ceiling. Great that you want to have a go at it but would have a seasoned pro to view the ceiling and then give an opinion. Hope this answer helps, and all the best.
