How to remove burgandy red paint from a North London terraced home

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.55 PM

The majority of houses on my street are painted a burgandy red colour. I do not know the reason why this is. The colour is awful and I feel the natural brick colour is much more appealing to the eyes. How should I remove the burgandy red colour? How long will it take and I will I need to repoint aftwerwards?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

hi Have you considered the possibility you may be in a conservation property area ? Without damaging your brickwork i would say,no. Your best course of action would be to just change colour, use Pilote "masonry" in white to act has your stain block, ie blot out the burgandy. Then give it 2/3 coats and just to give your coats of paint added strength dilute your first coat 30/70 water. Your second coat just add say 5/10 % water and your third leave has is. This will give your paint strength in coat, giving you better durability and lasting finish. I hope this is a less costly way of ridding you o the burgundy colour, but do check first that your not in a conservation band area or they will make you repaint to original colour. You can bend the rule a bit by slightly toning down or up the colour. If not then thats great and your free to paint at will. Hope its a pointer for you chris
