sHOULD NEW ROOF FELTING BE FLAPPING IN WIND

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.46 PM

I recently had roof felting The roofers removed existing tiles, removed old felting and relaced with new, then replaced old tiles.Every time the wind blows, there is a flapping noise. The roofers returned, they said the new felting was thinner but more efficient than the old 40 year old felt. Because they used the old tiles, there is a bigger gap left. They placed bird combs in theold tiles but still very noisy in wind. Should I get another roofer to check ?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The laps should be stapled or nailed especially if putting old pan tiles back on as the wind does rattle through them,

I agree that the felt is more efficient, but no, no one should just leave a flapping problem, the job still has issues and needs finishing, perhaps using eaves protectors. Older tiles are more Susseptable to wind than new interlocking ones, the rain may well be driving in next. I’m not saying they have done this wrong as such but may have to redo it , doubtful or unlikely tho.

No not in any circumstance should they leave it flapping it’s supposed to be tight so no water can get in
