Can we add velux windows to an extension that has already been approved?

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.46 PM

Hi, We are having a front extension and already have planning permission and the build is under way. However, the builder suggested a rooflight/velux windows would make a nice addition. Are we able to add this or do we have to reapply for planning permission? Also is this likely to incurr any further costs eg, planning permission, architect fees or engineer calculations etc

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, Yes you can it will cost you a small amount to alter drawings. I would suggest you do this so that there are no comebacks from council. Reason being when building inspector does attend and checks against current drawings he will see that their is a velux skylight and wont pass off build. My advice alter drawings before he/she attends. Regards Nawaz and Partners

You don't need planning permission for a Velux roof window, but you have to check with your local planning authority for details to ask the rules of the area where you live.

Hi It should be just an amendement to the existing planning application and you will have to double up the roof spars at either side where the velux is going. If you just give your architect a ring he will be able to clarify it and it shouldn't cost anything. Good luck
