Tiling into chipboard

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.46 PM

Hi We are planning to tile kitchen /dimning extension however would like advise on subfloor. We currently have half the floor.chipboarded.and.the other.half.(extension part) concrete screed. The kitchen will be installed after tile. We have had two tilers saying ditromat can be used.under tiles. But another.tiler today said ditromat is not.good.enough and would need fibre.board otherwise tiles will crack due to movement.. this method.also.adds.to.the.height of subfloor. But his quote was double the other two tilers.. We don't really.want.tiles to crack anytimes.soon!.But would.appreciate.advise on whether there are.oother.options. other than to have fibreboard. Would ditromat.be good enough. Thank you

Yes ditra matt underfloor is a special material between the floor tiles and wood board so I recommend šŸ‘Œ

If the floor move the grout will start to come out and lead to cracking of the tiles

Hi, If you are referring to tongue and groove chipboard then yes ditra mat will be fine. That's what I would normally do and many others i know in the tradešŸ‘providing the chipboard is fixed well prior to putting matting down so do all the necessary prep work needed to make it solid otherwise your just masking a problem so to speak. Prime the chipboard area especially to give a good key for adhesive to stick to as chipboard has a film type layer to it.
