Are steel columns a source of cold bridge in cavity walls?

I have a steel column in a cavity wall and was just wondering in what way a steel column is a cold bridge in cavity wall within the wall build up. do I need to insulated the back of the column?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If the cavity has insulation it will not need insulating again.

As long as the steel isn't touching both skins there shouldn't be a problem
