how do you fix ceiling hangers to steel beam?
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.46 PM
I'm working on a commercial project which has a suspended ceiling, the wire hangers for the ceiling grids are supposed to be hanged from the steel beams above but I have no idea how this is done, are the wires supposed to be hanged from the steel beams by drilling holes in the beam and then hooking the wire through the holes? is there some kind of special brackets for fixing the hanger wires to the beams? any advice/help will be much appreciated

Do NOT drill the steel beams. Have seen the wire over the top of beams and twisted together ( after tensioning) or there are girder brackets etc. you need to do a bit of research to find the best option.

You need to bolt wooden timber in between the steel beam. You will need to drill holes through the timber and steel beam at intervals
This will require you to mark out the timber at 400 to 600mm depending on the weight bearing on the the super structure.
Once the timber has been attached to the beam, you can now nail hangers at the markings.

You can hire a Hilti Gun and it is possible to ‘shot fire’ a timber say 4x2 for example into the beam. its quick and you can then fix to the timber
