Plasterboard on existing plaster
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.28 PM
Hi there! Just wondering if you can plasterboard over existing plaster or not? What’s the best solution without knocking all the old plaster off and going back to brick? Thank you in advance.

Hi, you are best to take old plaster off if unsure how stable it is e.g. if there are cracks and plaster falling off. If it is okay you can reskim, or if you want to board it then you could batten it out, but that could be longer and more expensive than hacking old off and reboarding. Hope that helps! Dean

Always take off the old plaster I would never dab over old incase of it cracking then damaging the new boards if you knock it all back to brick work that’s the best way 👍🏻

Yes you can but you must make sure it's firm and not loose and any loose flaky paint is scrapped back then stabalize with pva mix leave to dry then do a thick pva mix before you dot and dabbing the plasterboard over the old plastered walls and scrim tape all joins before plastering
