Completed works - client happy - paid -4 weeks later complaintint

Anonymous user 9 March 2024 - 3.28 PM

Hi I applied micro cement flooring for a client 4 weeks ago. Upon completion they had a few complaints which I agreed to rectify and sort ensuring they informed me exactly what they wanted. Before I sealed the floor I asked them to confirm they was happy - which in text I have them agreeing to seal the floor as they were happy. They paid and txt to say they were happy and loved the floor, and I hadn’t heard anything else from them until now. I first received a txt to say they scraped a chair across the floor and it has scratched and they aren’t happy with this, another message came through stating they were not happy as dark spots on the floor have appeared after mopping the floor. My first thought is it isn’t my issue that they have scratched the floor so shouldn’t be expected to fix this. Second thought is that considering it is 4 weeks after completion - this wouldn’t be the first time of mopping the floor so why would this be my issue also? Where do I stand with this? The client has stated upon completion the are happy with the works and made payment - it now seems as they have damaged the floor they are looking for further faults so I fix the floor damage?

If they where happy at first and only complained after self inflicting damage to the floor you have nothing to worry about as it was no fault of yours. I would be charging them to repair it. And even at charging them it’s still generous on your behalf because they are lucky you are willing to do the repair after the way they tried to blame you after causing the damage theirselves.

Personally I'd state to them on completion the work was satisfactory. There's a risk if you go back they'll not cover your time, they've admitted damaged to the floor they did..

First off all I’d say a micro cement floor takes 4 weeks to fully harden and it looks like you’re customer has been on the floor to early, Which would of caused the damage to the covering, Did you explain drying times to them ? But personally as the contractor I’d go around and have a look to see if a rectification can be done amicably

I would be inclined to make an appointment with the customer and do a inspection of the marks that have appeared as this may be plasticiser migration or even a product fault , if it is a fault with the product and we supplied it,we are responsible for intermediating on the customers behalf. Once that has been established and satisfactorily remedied, I would probably just change a few tiles free of charge... As professionals it's our job to go and explain what is happening, and if it's something we have or haven't done, take responsibility for it.. we can all get things wrong, but it's how we put them right that counts
