What’s the best way to prep a large artex ceiling to ensure the 1st coat doesn’t go off to quick ?

The ceiling is about 3.5m x 4.5m Would be an idea to mix SBR and pva together and give it 2 coats of that the day before then a coat of pva just before skimming ?

Hi there,
If going over artex, I would scrap down the high points in the artex then use diluted PVA. Roller the PVA on to the ceiling, give it a couple of coats before skimming. I would only use SBR on exterior walls as its more suitable to places where damp could be a factor.

Me personally would scrape all the artex especially the high spots then would apply pregrit plasterers mate leave for 24 hours then skim over normal pva doesn’t do the same job as pregrit also you see where you have applied it as it is coloured 👍

For a 100% job and a safe job is to overboard and skim .
Artex can contain asbestos
Best to get it checked before commencing work
