permanent removal of skylight from pitched roof
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.28 PM
Hi, i want to remove a skylight/velux type window from a pitched roof. The window is roughly 5x3ft. I would like tiles to be replaced along with insulation and replastering internally. is this a big piece of work to get this work completed and roughly what would the cost be?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I don't think it's a huge job, it will depend on the access really, a lot of the work can be carried out internally, although scaffolding will be required to carry out the tiling safely. I would imagine 2k plus the scaffolding cost (maybe £1200 if straightforward)

Very simple job,I'm just a roofer I don't do internal work, but to take out the window is very cheap, just need 4"×2" timber, one length of around 3 metres long should be fine, some tiles, battens and felt, simply remove window, fit new rafter, felt over existing area, fit new battens and simply tile over, you may want to strengthen new rafter as well,I normally do,hope this helps kind regards mike higher roofing specialist

No it’s not a big job to do.I’d say anything between £1600-£1950 would be about right to do a proper job. Hope this helps you.

Prices all depend on many factors, on what grade materials you want to use, if it’s tiled or slates. Then what brand of tile or slate they are, if there’s much timber work to be constructed etc etc. Will it need scaffolding? Or can it be done via rope access? Give me a shout & I can price this up for you using rope access methods, saving money on costly scaffolds.
