Plumbing

main water supply

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.27 PM

Hi Our old kitchen was infront of the house where mains water was coming under sink but we have recently moved kitchen to rear of the house, a new extension. My plubmer and central heating installer has used philmac universal transition coupling device to join new pipe to existing main water supply in old kitchen (its been converted into a bedroom and this joint would be tiled on) and taken it to boiler/underfloor heating area and from there to rear kitchen. I dont feel this setup is a good idea incase there is a leakage the joint would be under tiles, am i right to worry here? Hoping my plumber is following all the guildlines for us to have safe drinking water in kitchen Any help here would be highl apprecaited. Thanks.

The existing mains water supply will have to be either re-routed around new extention or it will have to be installed in a duct so that can be easily removed to allow maintenance or repair. This are general rules

Re route the water mains to the back of the house. It’s better to be safe then sorry. Re route to the back under neath ground in a duct and have an inspection chamber where your old pipe meets your new pipe. This is so that In future you can repair joint without digging back down if it leaks

No you shouldn't bury a pipe joint under a floor as per regulation wrs2.7 pipe joints must be easily accessible and not buried, the pipe should be routed around the property to new location and should be ducted with inspection point where the join is

I would advise to not fit any water main connection that you cannot have access Too incase there is a problem later. If it is too difficult to move joint outside i would make access under the tile.
