How do I fix my cracked render?
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.27 PM
I had a garage built four years ago; I wanted rendered blockwork but the builder persuaded me that timber frame would be better. Now it is covered in cracks that seem to be following the lines of the timber frame. Is this because the rendering was not flexible enough, and how do I fix it? I've tried flexible external filler, but that cracks (although the cracks are then generally narrower).
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

A boarded render system is perfect for cladding a timber frame, and a modern thin coat (silicone finish) is best when using a boarded render system.
A timber frame settles during a couple years so a it’s best to have a light render system on it but if the rendering is with sand and cement it’s to heavy for the timber frame with the movement
