Making payments with no breakdown of what it is for

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.47 PM

I am having an extension built and have just been asked for the second cheque for £5k. I am a little apprehensive as they are not showing me what the money is for? They are very nice guys (just 2 of them) and he has said that he will give me receipts after each cheque then an invoice at the end. I am paying for big orders myself on my credit card for things like the bricks and timbers etc. I have never done anything like this before and am unsure if this is ok. Should i ask for a breakdown so far?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes.You should know exactly what you are paying for, every step of the way regardless of how nice they are.Genuine tradesmen would not be upset by this request.

Most Builders are genuine honest Guys, if you are worried about the amounts you are paying out just make the them a cup of tea/coffee sit them down and talk over things, its not that hard go for it.

Firstly you should always be able to have a run down of estimates in materials labour etc but as chalk is to cheese every builder estimates differently. i have found some customers prefer not to know and other want all the details. most of us as ATS Building Services said are genuine honest people and you shouldn't have a problem in asking him what has gone in where so far.
