I've got 24V computer fans, and I'm trying to figure a way it connect them to my computer

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.42 PM

I've got 24V computer fans, but the output for the fan power ports are 12V, and I'm trying to figure a way to it connect them to my computer. The other problem is that the fans only have two wires compared to the four-pin ports inside my computer, so is there also a way to convert them to the four-port, but just with the two cables, or could I buy a separate fan speed controller that then has a four-pin connector on the end of that. To make the output 24v from 12v could I put a step up converter, or would the load be too much to run it though a four pin fan connection

Hi there. If I were you you then I would contact a reputable computer repair specialist who should be able to answer your question. This really is a specialised area so don’t take risks with people who are not up to speed with computer design electronics.

Unfortunately the best advice I can give is to obtain fans that are designed for your PC, which means 12v fans.

I wouldn’t recommend using fan speed controllers and step up modules if your Motherboard only supports 12v output. You could potentially use relays to switch the 24v but would lose any kind of control other than on/off functionality. I would recommend using 12v fans if this is what your Motherboard supports. This will give you full functionality (PWM) and be quieter. Sorry if I’m a little late to comment here but I hope this information is of some use to you. Marc.

Sounds like you need a 12v CPU fan.
