Adding new electrical sockets

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.42 PM

Apologies if this sounds a really stupid question, but I am in the process of completing on a new flat. In the master bedroom there are no sockets on the wall where the bed would naturally go and the nearest socket is on the opposite wall. I would also like another socket on the opposite side of the same wall where I want my bed (in the office) but the only other socket in that room is on the other side of an adjoining wall, and there is a door way in between. Do new sockets need to run from an existing electric socket and if so what do you do if there aren't any sockets nearby?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes generally you would try to keep the ring of the sockets so split the ring circuit correctly ,or spur off this circuit but only once with a socket unless you fused it down 1st with a 13amp spur then you could come off with more sockets as it would be protected by a 13 a fuse , other than that a fresh circuit pulled in from the consumer unit , i hope this can help always get a qualified electrcian to do this.

You don't need to know the ins and outs but it is straightforward enough. An electrician can easily do this, preferably before you move in and block the floor up with furniture.

The best way is to ask an electrician to it for you as there is a risk of electric shock. But you can always spur from existing sockets and again it depends whether it is ring or radial and is better to call electrician and ask the to run cable underfloor if possible. I hope it helps Thanks
