Remove skirting boards and temporarily attach new boards until flooring ready?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.42 PM

UPDATE: thanks WGBPM & Ray. I'll plug and screw them in and once the new floor has been laid I'll patch them in. Hi there. Hope this makes sense… we're about to have our hallway redecorated but later in the year we will be getting a new kitchen fitted and we'll replace our laminate floor at the same time. The laminate floor runs all the way down the hallway, into the diner and then into the kitchen. We don't want to have beading but instead have the skirting board over the floor so it looks neater. Problem is, we don't want to risk damaging the hallway walls/wallpaper if the old skirting boards are removed later in the year. So, I was wondering if its possible to remove the old skirting boards now, get the hallway walls etc decorated and then have the new (pre-painted?) skirting board temporarily attached to the walls so that when the flooring is laid later in the year its a simple matter of detaching them, fitting the floor and then reattaching and filling any screw/nail holes. The longest piece of skirting board is around 12ft long. Obviously, until the flooring is in we’ll probably see the gaps in the edges which would normally be filled, but I’d be happy with that if it means we’re not spending 6+ months with no skirting on the wall at all! Just wondered if this is viable and if so, what you’d recommend the best way of attaching them would be. Any advice would be appreciated!

This site charges for dead leads. 5 mins after being “shortlisted” I contacted a customer. The line was dead. They never replied to in app messages, text or phone call. Then I got charged £35. Terrible.

Not saying this is a better answer however one option would be to rip the skirting down on a bevel .this would allow you to permanently fix the top section thus protecting all your decor . The lower section can be temp fixed. At this point you may want to consider off setting it to permit the new flooring to just slip under or accept that you will need to rip a small strip off the lower section of the skirting to accommodate the new floor . The trade off with this is that the skirting will be slightly reduced in size ie was 150 mm now 130 mm.

Hi, if you want to have skirting attached to the wall prior to the new floor being laukiiĺed , you could just put a dab of mastic on the skirting say every .500mm !!!, it would then be easy to remove without causing to mutch damage to the walls !!!, alternatively use a hammer drill and secure the skirting o the wall by fixing it with a plug and screw.
