Would you plaster a new extension with the roof uncompleted and leaking?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.03 PM

We have had a substantial extension built with mono ridge walls and balcony above, the roof is epdm, walls are marine ply, up to date have cement board and render basecoat on them. They are leaking into the extension below and our builder has done first fix electrics and is boarding and plastering the walls and ceiling with water dripping through. My question really is should I expect a weathertight structure before finishes like plaster and carpentry and electrics are done? Thank you

Absolutely yes. Should all be water tight. In particular your electrician should never ever have done 1st fix until it was.

The build should be totally water tight before any finishes especially electrical works also the plaster will never have a good finish witch will leave you unsatisfied with the end product

If the roof is not fully completed then I'd have to say no way electrics and plastering should not even be thought about directly beneath the roof in question

Stop him straight away and tell him you want the roof finished and watertight before commencing on any other work and prob tell him to remove all first fix electrics as they could be holding water somewhere also if he is dot and dabbing the plasterboard you will probably find that they haven't stuck properly

You can have the best coat in the world but if you have a hole in your hat it's useless.
