Safe to use extension cord with electric oven?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.03 PM
We have just purchased a built in single electric oven to replace old one. Cable on new oven is about 30cm too short to reach plug socket. Would it be safe to use a single gang extension cable? Max consumption of oven is rated at 2.6kw and it has a standard 13amp plug.

Buy a metre of 3-core 2.5mm2 flex, a 3-pin plug and a 30A 3-terminal junction box. Wire the plug on to one end of the flex. Cut the plug off the existing too short flex. Join both pieces of flex in the junction box taking care to ensure a neat job and firmly tighten all connections. That will be perfectly safe.

for safety reasons all fixed appliances need to fitted to a dedicated isolation switch as in your case a 13a switched fuse spur
