Pooling on new GRP roof: should I worry?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.46 PM

I've just had a new fibreglass roof installed on a flat roof. After some rain, the water runs in the right direction but pools at the exit to the gutter. Builder says it's nothing to worry about. Is he right?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It isn’t necessarily something to worry about in the present time but in the long run prolonged sitting water can cause wear to the grp it’s self

Hi there In my opinion short term ponding is nothing to worry about. Long term ponding could indicate an issue with the roof.

Hello. You don’t give dimensions of the roof? If it’s a standard kitchen extension I would always recommend fitting “ firrings” If it’s a dormer size then and the pools are not deep it would probably be ok but I would recommend applying a uv coat approximately every seven years. Suppliers say you can apply GRP to perfectly fat roofs but in my experience always fit “firrings” regardless. ( if you fit a gutter perfectly level with a joining union and filled it full of water eventually the union will fail. If the gutter has a good “flowrate” then it would be less likely to fail. Hope this helps

A new roof should not be holding any water , This is something that should of been picked up by the installer .
