2m from which end of a sloped garden?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.46 PM

I currently have a 6ft fence from my back door to the end of my garden (approx 9m). I’d like to increase the height to 2metres, however the end of my garden is a couple of cm taller than the ground level of the end by my back door. I don’t want a stepped fence look, preferring a flat top. If I go 2m from the back of my garden, the side by my back door will exceed 2m. If I go 2m from my back door, I reach the existing 6ft fence post at the end of my garden. Where do I stand on this without getting planning permission?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Thank you for asking for our advice. The answer to your question is that you are legally allowed to go 6ft 6 without planning permission to your rear garden. However if the garden next door steps up in height you can accommodate for this and install a fence to suit and if required can be up to 6ft6 from the highest point. Hope this helps Craig

If the end of your garden is 2cm taller then ground level to back door I advise dig out 2cm, level ground and will be straight with the rest of the fence. Maximum height is 2 metres with out planning permission.
