Water dripping from ceiling but no water was used in the bath / shower

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.46 PM

Water suddenly was leaking from the kitchen ceiling which has the bathroom above it - the confusion is that no one has used the shower or bath all day so it was dry so where did the water come from ? To reiterate - there was no water which would have been used in the bathroom /shower for the water to leak. The last time the shower was used was at 9.30pm and the leak occurred at 5.30pm the next day. Thanks

The water supply to the bathroom will have some pressure, Evan if all taps are off, if there is a leak in any of the pipes or connections it will continuously flow. My advice would be to first remove the bath panel and check the visible connections above floor level, then check under the cistern and basin. If all these areas are dry I would then investigate further under the floor. If you have a tiled floor it may be an easier, cleaner and cheaper option to take down the ceiling under neath to inspect/ repair any leaks from below and then have the ceiling patched back in. Good luck, hope this helps. Mike

Hi, it could possibly be your tap/pipe leaking behind the bath panel, these will still have water in them even if no water is used during the day time.

It would seem you have a leak from one of the feed pipes - I.e. the hot or cold feed going to your shower.

Hi, it is possible that the tap connectors could be at fault. This is a common issue due to corroded seal's and limescale build up.
