WIll a builder help me decide what type of extension to do?

HI there I am in the process of buying a house, it needs completely refurbishing. I know what I want it to be in the end (kind of), but I need some help on rearranging rooms, whether its possible to knock down certain walls The best and most cost effective way to extend, how to arrange the rooms once extension is built. Will a builder be the best person to help me with this advice? Or would an architect need to go to the property. I'm new to this, I know what I want to end result to be, I just don't know how is best to achieve it. Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you

A builder would be the best person to help you put your house back together after the architect has rearranged your rooms, it mite cost a bit more to get a architect on board, but safer. you can always mess about with room sizes or which wall to remove once you have plans. I wouldn't go for trail and error sometime it can cost a lot more.
